The Hutchins Residence

This is a Split-Level house that follows a sloping hillside, rather than cut into it with expensive retaining walls. This strategy creates three split levels connected to each other horizontally instead of vertically. Unlike stacking floors, the split level space creates vistas and breezeways that stretch from the front door to the back garden.

Clerestory windows fill the house with natural light. An abundance of sliding glass doors creates an indoor/outdoor flow that takes advantage of the Southern California climate.
